I should have guessed
That Love would cheat me
Every time, I seem blessed
She rips bliss from me.
My mother died too soon
Desiree made of me jest
Helen played the same tune
They're like the rest.
Now, the bird does plummet
On these dark thoughts, I brood
Cast from Happiness' summit
Toward a pit most crude.
Like Icarus, I am
For approaching Desire's light
The gods make a sham
Of my delight
I hear the bird splash
Into the mirky sea
And feel Love's lash
Strike out at me
As I sink into the dark
My mind does brood
Despair holds its mark
Dark is my mood.
Then I see a light
In my mind's eye
A challenge to fight
Rather than die
I can't believe it
The angel's Chloe
Her whose fit
Had threatened Love so.
"I'm past that now.
Clark and Lana need aid
Everything's upside down
And Hope here does fade."
The spunky one
Intently did me observe.
Her plea done
She steeled my nerve.
Yet I sensed something else
From her mood
She looked at me
Seeking Hope too.
Taking a deep breath, I asked
"Chloe, do you love me?
You ignored me in the past
Only Clark, you did see."
She sighed deeply then.
A remorseful tear did fall
"I have no luck with men,
Whether short or tall.
I do love you, Lex
That I now see.
I've fallen for Love's hex
Please, come back for me!"
I gave her a confident smirk
And stood most ardent
Pushing aside Death's dirk
To reach what for me, Love meant.
"I'll come for you," I did vow.
"My heart is yours
It will see none now
But the one behind your doors."
With that, a raft, I did find
Over by the door, I spy
To my Chloe's hope,
I will myself tie.
Leaping from the plane
I jump into the dark sea
The bird sinking into its domain
Yet it still wants me.
Inflating my raft
And scrambling onboard
I think Poseidon daft
For gorging on his hoard.
A sudden tempest did rage
Trying to sink me
But I determined to reach old age
Now that Chloe did me free.
I hung on for dear life
I dared not let go
In the midst of Poseidon's strife
Fortune bade me so.
During this fight,
I passed out
Yet never far from my love's sight
I never did doubt
I awoke sometime later
In a hospital bed
"Come to me," I bade her.
But finding Solitude instead.
I looked around
I scanned the room
But she couldn't be found
The one who saved me from doom.
At that moment, I did despair
Was it a lie?
Did I imagine my lady fair
Before I was supposed to die?
Then I saw beside me
A basket of flowers resting near
A note on them, I did see
Quelling my fear.
Opening it, I did note
Her delicate invitation there
Push me on, did Hope
Even as I felt her stare.
I looked at the door
And I did believe
Hope gave me more
Refusing to me deceive.
My angel rushed to me
Glad that I was alive
Her face filled with glee
That I did survive.
Love had linked us
Through that, it did start
For others, we wouldn't fuss
And never again would we part.
