I stand there aghast
A frown on my face
Just as in the past
While running Love’s race
For the thousandth time,
I ask
Seeking the truth
From under his mask
And as with the other times
He denies the words true
Leaving me doleful rhymes
And moods most blue
Why won’t he tell me?
Why from me does he hide?
Why from Love does he flee?
While I, Misery’s tears have cried?
Whatever the secret is
I wouldn’t care
I would him kiss
If to tell me, he would dare.
Even Cupid’s mind does swim
At why he resists
Love’s sweet hymn
And her darts’ soothing blitz
Yet I know
One day, he’ll tell me
What’s in his soul
And set us free
And on that day
We’ll rejoice
When it, he says
With Love’s clear voice.
