This
poem is dedicated to Prolific Peggy for her vision of Lex. This piece is
Lex's POV.
After all of the years
Dealing with the blame
Tied to my fears
Wallowing in my shame
A father's misdeed
A son bearing its weight
Causing a town to bleed
All for the elder's sake
Over the years
As I have grown
The people's tears
Away have me blown
I tried oh so very hard
To reconcile
The love of father
And the love of friend
Going far
Tasting his bile
After the death of Mother
And my refusal to bend
His schemes wrought
Problems to Smallville
Results dearly bought
And never finding its fill
During that period
Several folks aided me
With approaches myriad
Helping me to free
Clark stood fast
Taking all comers
Including my car's blast
During the last four summers
Lana came around
She learned in me to trust
With a business plan sound
And a dream most just
Martha saw past my name
And took the bother
Of not giving me the blame
And acting as surrogate mother
Most importantly though
A blonde spitfire emerged
With a hurricane fury blew
And my doldrums purged
Chloe is her name
The best friend she is
For giving me perspective
Not judging a name
Nor a point would she miss
While dishing out a directive
Into my life she burst
A strange pixie to be sure
Berating Dad in the way worst
And my depression cure
As she acted in this way
As she faced my father
As she took off the gloves
She definitely had her say
Pushing Dad from me farther
And earning my love
She inspired me
Not through threat or cajole
Nor through shame or fear
Through her, I am free
Liberated is my soul
When she is near
My father rants and raves
I don't care
Because I will be saved
From his hot and empty air
Due to my friends
I finally made the leap
Finally cut the cord
On those people I depend
As the last link I cut
With a shared swipe of the sword
With that act
Transformed was I
Desire became fact
Destiny was mine
Lionel was aghast
His control lost
His plan had crashed
At tremendous cost
His reputation in ruin
His business gone
His heir estranged
A fire was a' brewin'
A loud triumphant song
From a heart long enraged
I stand to lose a lot
Hope for Father's love
His money
His influence
These are key
Yet, laying on this humble cot
I'd rather be a dove
Giving people days sunny
Providing confidence
As Chloe does for me.
She stands with me
Holding my hand
Her eyes shining
Her smile bright
Helping me to see
That we have a plan
Without pining
And for good things, we fight
I smirk back at her
And our friends
For the future we turn
On each other we depend.
